Surgeon General Jerome Adams has confirmed that the incoming Biden team requested he step down ahead of President Joe Biden’s inauguration. Adams made the announcement in a tweet on Jan. 20, several hours before Biden took the oath of office. “I’ve been asked by the Biden team to step down as Surgeon General,” Adams wrote. “It’s been the honor of my life to serve this Nation, and I will do all I can to ensure everyone has an equal opportunity to achieve and maintain health.” Biden’s pick for Adams’s replacement is former Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, who has advised Biden on the COVID-19 pandemic.
