The Los Angeles City Council is left with an impending decision regarding Councilman Mark Ridley-Thomas’s vacancy following his recent suspension. The council president can either appoint a replacement to temporarily fill the position of Ridley-Thomas, or the city council can vote for an appointment, according to LA City Clerk Holly Walcott. “I imagine we’ll see at least an appointment letter any day now,” Walcott told The Epoch Times. Ridley-Thomas was indicted earlier in the month for allegedly conspiring with Marilyn Flynn, former dean of the University of Southern California School of Social Work, in allowing his son to receive graduate admission, a full scholarship, and a job through the university. Council voted to suspend Ridley-Thomas on Oct. 20. Currently, his seat remains empty as his office proceeds to run operations for his district during his absence, Walcott said.
