An explosion erupted Thursday near the airport in Kabul, Afghanistan. The explosion happened near a gate to the airport, according to reports. “We can confirm an explosion outside Kabul airport. Casualties are unclear at this time. We will provide additional details when we can,” U.S. Department of Defense press secretary John Kirby said in a social media post. According to Afghan journalist Bilal Sarwary, the explosion took place outside the airport’s eastern gate. Eyewitnesses told the reporter that gunfire was also unleashed and that there were multiple injuries and fatalities.
