New York City is now the most expensive place in the country to rent a one-bedroom apartment, upsetting the primacy of San Francisco in this category, according to a report by renting portal Zumper. Median rent reached $2,810 in August for a 1-bedroom unit in New York City, up more than 4 percent from August the year before. In San Francisco, the price tag was $2,800, down nearly 8 percent from August 2020, the report said. In early 2019, the price in San Francisco was more than $800 higher than in New York City.
