Dozens of wildfires have spread in Algeria and killed at least seven people while injuring two others, authorities confirmed on Tuesday. A government official in the North African country said arson is suspected for the blazes and an investigation will be launched to identify those behind it. “Only criminal hands can be behind the simultaneous outbreak of about 50 fires across several localities of the province,” Interior Minister Kamel Beldjoud said on state television. Several houses were burned and families have escaped to hotels and youth hostels, witnesses told Reuters. Pictures also show residents using tree branches to put out the flames. “We had a horror night.
