An Australian suicide prevention charity is pleading for extra government funding to meet the surging demand for lifesaving help amidst repeated bouts of lockdown around the country. Parents Beyond Breakup (PBB), a national organisation dedicated to supporting parents distressed who have been alienated from their children, has seen an 85 percent increase in inbound calls to its suicide helplineĀ (1300 853 437) since the first round of COVID lockdown in March 2020, with this June recording the highest number of callers over its 22-year operation. Equipped with an 8-member team complemented with around 40 qualified volunteers, the Sydney-based charity also runs face to face and online peer support group services, including Dads in Distress services and Mums in Distress services.
