Commentary A problem for North American Jews, one that has only become worse of late, is that many refuse to join the left in condemning Israel and demanding that it cease to exist. By far the majority of Jews consider themselves “progressives” and supporters of the left. According to the Pew Research Center, at least 64 percent vote Democrat in the United States and most vote Green, NDP, or Liberal in Canada. Many Jews support all leftist causes, such as Black Lives Matter riots, abortions, and open borders. But most Jews—82 percent according to a Pew survey—feel some attachment to Israel, which they see as the homeland of Jews and the port of last resort when genocide for Jews returns.
