National Guard personnel will remain in Washington through the end of the month, officials said Thursday. The Maryland National Guard will stay in the nation’s capitol until the end of January, Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan told reporters during a press conference. “Today, we are extending the Maryland National Guard’s mission in Washington, D.C. through the inauguration and the end of the month,” he said. Hogan, a Republican, and Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam, a Democrat, sent National Guard troops to the city after protesters stormed the Capitol building. Northam said in a tweet that Virginia National Guard forces will be in Washington through at least Jan. 20.
