The central Ontario city of Barrie will turn its attention to clean−up today after a twister tore through a neighbourhood, damaging homes and injuring several people. Paramedics have said eight people were taken to hospital, and several others were treated for minor injuries. Environment Canada has given the tornado a preliminary rating of EF−2, meaning it had maximum wind speeds of 210 kilometres per hour. The weather office says the damage path was about 5 kilometres long and up to 100 metres wide. Fire Chief Cory Mainprize says roughly 20 homes are considered uninhabitable, with two or three completely destroyed. Premier Doug Ford is heading to Barrie later today to survey the damage and meet with first responders and local officials.
