The Alberta RCMP is warning property owners of ongoing paving scams and fraudulent contractor services this summer targeted at rural areas. In recent incidents, the RCMP says that illegitimate companies are claiming to be from out-of-town and offer a discounted asphalt-paving service while providing a potential victim false contact information and addresses to their business. The companies will claim to have leftover materials from a previous job and offer to pave driveways at a reduced price. Once the company collects a payment, they will disappear from an area, and many people will find that materials used are of poor quality and unprofessional workmanship, leaving victims with costly asphalt repairs and no way to contact their contractor.
