Dr. Anthony Fauci must answer questions about the U.S. funding for a Chinese laboratory and other matters, former President Donald Trump said Thursday after thousands of 2020 emails to, from, and about Fauci were released this week. “There are a lot of questions that must be answered by Dr. Fauci. The funding of Wuhan by the United States was foolishly started by the Obama Administration in 2014 but ended under the Trump Administration. When I heard about it, I said ‘no way.’ What did Dr. Fauci know about ‘gain of function’ research, and when did he know it?” Trump said in a statement through his Save America political action committee. Fauci directs the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). In 2014, the agency gave a $3.7 million grant to Ecohealth Alliance to explore the risk of bat coronavirus emergence.
