Secretary of State Antony Blinken is marking his first trip to Central America by saying the United States wants a shared commitment on migration with those countries. Blinken says the United States is preparing a $4 billion aid package to help countries in the region meet the challenges of “irregular migration.” Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued a disaster declaration in response to the humanitarian crisis. It comes the same day the Biden administration formally ends the Trump-era “Remain in Mexico” policy. Abbott said, “President Biden’s open-border policies have paved the way for dangerous gangs and cartels, human traffickers, and deadly drugs like fentanyl to pour into our communities.” And according to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), businesses can require that their employees get the COVID-19 vaccine without violating federal laws.
