EDMONTON/CALGARY—With ballots from about half of the voting places in around 10:30 p.m. local time, the UCP is leading with around 53 percent of the popular votes and in 52 ridings, compared to the NDP’s 44 percent and 35 ridings.
Polls opened Monday, May 29, in Alberta at 9 a.m. local time and closed at 8 p.m. in what political analysts have called one of the closest elections in the province’s history.

There are 87 seats up for grabs in the Legislature. In this election, 49 UCP candidates and 19 NDP candidates are looking to be reelected in their respective ridings….
