The government has announced plans to abolish so-called “no-fault evictions” as part of its overhaul of housing laws.
The Renters’ (Reform) Bill, introduced to Parliament on Wednesday, will also “empower renters to challenge poor landlords without fear of losing their home,” the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities said in a statement. Renters will be given the legal right to request a pet in their home which landlords must consider and cannot unreasonably refuse.
The bill also seeks to make it illegal for landlords and agents to impose blanket bans on renting to benefit claimants or families with children, and applies “decent home” quality standards to the private rented sector for the first time….
