The federal government does not know how many employees are working remotely from home, according to Parliamentary Budget Officer Yves Giroux.
On May 2, Giroux testified before the Senate national finance committee, soon after the government and roughly 120,000 workers represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) reached a tentative agreement to end a strike that began on April 18.
The union had demanded the option for full-time work from home for some public servants, while the Treasury Board proposed a “hybrid model” that would have required some days to work in the office.
According to Blacklock’s Reporter, in a directive dated Dec. 15, 2022, Treasury Board President Mona Fortier suggested that federal employees could work from home “40 to 60 percent of their regular schedule,” up to three days each week….
