Donald Trump’s legal team has asked the House Intelligence Committee to intervene in the Department of Justice (DOJ) investigation of the former president’s retention of classified documents.
“DOJ is not the appropriate agency to conduct investigations pertaining to the mishandling or spillage of classified material,” Timothy C. Parlatore and other Trump attorneys stated in a letter dated April 26 (pdf) to committee Chairman Mike Turner (R-Ohio).
“DOJ should be ordered to stand down, and the intelligence community should instead conduct an appropriate investigation and provide a full report to this Committee, as well as your counterparts in the Senate,” the letter continues….
