Former President Donald Trump’s legal team has asked the House Intelligence Committee to intervene in the Department of Justice’s investigation of Trump’s retention of classified documents.
“DOJ is not the appropriate agency to conduct investigations pertaining to the mishandling or spillage of classified material,” Timothy C. Parlatore and other Trump attorneys argue in the April 26 letter (pdf) making that request.
“DOJ should be ordered to stand down, and the intelligence community should instead conduct an appropriate investigation and provide a full report to this Committee, as well as your counterparts in the Senate,” the letter continues.

Trump’s legal team sent the letter to the chair of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, Rep. Mike Turner (R-Ohio), as well as the rest of Congress’s intelligence-focused Gang of Eight….
