Rural Management, a term for teams introduced in 2023 under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (Ministry), has quickly stirred public anger.
The teams are managing the countryside like was done in the Mao era when grains were the main agriculture, produce was strictly forbidden, and peasants who grew their greens were seen as the dirty “capitalist tails” that must be cut off.
Commentators said the new establishment suggested Beijing senses the uncertainty of the rural populace.
However, these illegal law enforcers would only increase the instability in the countryside through their use of mobs and lack of discipline.
