President Joe Biden recently declared that he wants to make it illegal to ban transgender athletes competing in Title IX college sports. Biden and many Democrats believe that this proposal would provide fairness to LGBT athletes. However, several female athletes have publicly raised red flags and stated that this move could essentially demolish women’s collegiate sports across the nation. It could also potentially adversely affect women’s professional sports.
Title IX was codified in 1972 during Pres. Nixon’s tenure and has undergone evolutionary changes over the past fifty years. It was initiated so that female athletes could compete in university athletics and receive support from athletic conferences, the NCAA, and higher education.
