“How Humankind Came To Be,” an article by Mr. Li Hongzhi, founder of Falun Gong, prompted Victor Jessop to reflect on Falun Gong’s role in the resurgence of faith in communist China.
“What was communist China like in 1992? A ruthless marxist, maoist dictatorship, crushing religion, crushing the historic Confucian traditions that so much of Chinese society had been structured upon,” Jessop, co-founder and president of the NGO New America Initiative (NAI), told The Epoch Times.
“It was a war against tradition and goodness, and virtue,” said Jessop, who also worked as a financial advisor.
In these circumstances, Mr. Li introduced Falun Gong to the public, said Jessop. The spiritual practice, also known as Falun Dafa, is rooted in ancient Chinese traditions, and consists of moral improvement—leading to spiritual enlightenment—by following three core tenets: truthfulness, compassion, and forbearance….
