Kidney disease is known as the “silent killer” because it often has no obvious early symptoms. It is estimated that up to 90 percent of people in the United States with chronic kidney disease (CKD) are completely unaware they have the disease until it is very advanced.
As kidney disease progresses, it can lead to kidney failure, requiring dialysis or a kidney transplant. It can also result in other serious health issues, including a heart attack or stroke.
