Matt Pobereyko, a former Minor League Baseball pitcher who played for the Sioux City Explorers from 2019 to 2022, has died suddenly after experiencing a heart attack, according to his team. He was 31.
The Saraperos de Saltillo, a professional baseball organization in the Mexican League, confirmed Pobereyko’s passing in a statement on Twitter, saying the Hammond, Indiana, native had a great winter season with the team and rose to the position of “punch king.”
Hector Gomez, a former Major League Baseball insider, said Pobereyko had pitched in the Mexican League this offseason.
“Former Mets minor league pitcher Matt Pobereyko passed away at the age of 31 due to a heart attack,” Gomez wrote on Twitter. “He had pitched in the Mexican League and Dominican Winter League this offseason.”…
