The San Diego Padres dug deep into their pocketbook again Thursday, Feb. 9, reaching agreement with right-hander Yu Darvish on a six-year, $108 million contract extension, according to multiple reports.
The new contract will take effect this season and expire in 2028, after Darvish turns 42.
Darvish was a rock for the Padres in 2022, finishing 16-8 with a 3.10 ERA in 30 starts. He struck out 197 batters in 194 2/3 innings. His 16 wins were the most since his rookie season. In four postseason starts, Darvish was 2–1 with a 2.88 ERA.
A five-time All-Star, Darvish is entering his 11th season. He has played with the Texas Rangers (2012–17), Los Angeles Dodgers (2017), Chicago Cubs (2018–20) and Padres, who acquired him in a seven-player trade in December 2020….
