A set of companion bills introduced by Virginia Del. Scott Wyatt and state Sen. Bryce Reeves (HB1682 and SB1188, respectively) would amend the terrorism statute in Virginia to include fentanyl as a “weapon” by definition, and the distribution of the deadly drug would be classified as a felony.
Virginia Republicans have joined the growing effort to help stop fentanyl deaths by designating the drug a weapon of mass destruction.
“I am carrying this bill that classifies Fentanyl (and its derivatives) as a weapon of terrorism because our youth dying on the streets is NOT ACCEPTABLE,” Reeves said in a Jan. 16 Twitter post….
