Rain and snowfall in California over the weekend caused evacuations and dangerous travel conditions in a number of places throughout the state, including the Sierra mountains.
Numerous reports indicated that the excessive snowfall caused treacherous conditions for drivers, with the University of California Berkeley Central Sierra Snow Lab reporting that it received 21.5 inches of snow in 24 hours.
Just before the start of the holiday weekend that brought more snowfall, the California Highway Patrol rescued three people after their car slid off a rain-slicked road and ended up perched on the edge of a cliff in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
The occupants of the car “were scared for their lives and in disbelief” when they were pulled safely from the vehicle as the front end hung precariously over the cliff’s edge, according to the highway patrol….
