The German defense minister resigned on Monday over public skepticism regarding her efficiency at a time when the German military is undergoing changes.
Christine Lambrecht, a member of Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s Social Democratic Party (SPD), submitted her resignation request to Scholz: “Today I asked the chancellor to dismiss me from the office of federal minister of defense.”
Her decision comes as the defense ministry is under pressure to approve an increase of military aid to Ukraine, and after several Puma tanks stopped functioning during a recent drill.
Lambrecht was criticized for not upgrading the aging and dysfunctional German military quickly, despite a $100 billion fund allocated for that purpose after the war in Ukraine broke out….
