DOWNEY, Calif.—An investigation was continuing Dec. 21 into the cause of an apartment fire in Downey that left a woman dead and two other people hospitalized in critical condition, including the woman’s young daughter.
Downey Fire Department crews responded at 10:47 p.m. Dec. 20 to the apartment at Dinsdale Street and Tweedy Lane, where they found flames in the unit’s garage and roof.
Fire officials said an injured woman was found outside the unit, and two more people were carried out of the burning structure.
Downey Fire Department Battalion Chief Jorge Villanueva told reporters at the scene that the two people inside the building were a mother and daughter who were found inside an upstairs bathroom. The mother was pronounced dead at the scene….
