The United States should temporarily stop all flights from the United Kingdom because of the new COVID-19 variant that has emerged there, Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) said Saturday. “The U.S. needs to temporarily halt all flights from the U.K. into the U.S. to stop more infectious mutation of COVID from entering the U.S. This should have been done days ago,” Gabbard, a former Democratic presidential candidate, said in a statement. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Dec. 24 announced all passengers entering the United States from the UK, starting Monday, must get tested for COVID-19 within three days of their flight. Passengers must provide written documentation of their laboratory test result to the airline. “Airlines must confirm the negative test result for all passengers before they board. If a passenger chooses not to take a test, the airline must deny boarding to the passenger,” the CDC stated. …
