My husband had an ultrasound test to look at his liver and gallbladder. They were fine, but it showed a 3.3 cm bulge in his aorta. What can be done to prevent it from becoming an aneurysm?
Answer: The aorta leads downward from the heart through the chest and into the abdomen. In the pelvis, the vessel splits into two branches that go to the legs.
The aorta is normally about 2 centimeters (0.8 inches) across. A bulge in the abdominal aorta of 3 cm (1.2 inches) or more in diameter is considered an aneurysm. So, technically your husband already has an aneurysm, caused by a weak area in the artery wall….
