Beijing has been operating an overseas police station in Sydney since 2018, the Australian media has revealed.
The Public Security Bureau in China’s Wenzhou city has established an official “contact point” in Sydney in 2018, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) reported on Oct. 13.
The move was trumpeted at an official ceremony in Wenzhou in 2019 but received little coverage by international media at the time.
Luo Jie, chief of the Wenzhou Public Security Bureau, said at the ceremony that the contact point was a “positive response” to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) leader Xi Jinping’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), which has been accused as a “debt trap” diplomacy to seek hegemony….
