Acupressure and acupuncture are unique therapeutic methods used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Studies have confirmed that Chinese auricular acupuncture, a subset focusing on specific points on the ears, has significant efficacy in the prevention and treatment of common gynecological diseases.
A Chinese research team from Guizhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine published an article on Aug. 17, in the Science and Technology Forum of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
The research study included 114 patients with primary dysmenorrhea symptoms, divided into two groups. One group was treated using an acupuncture technique called auricular acupoint bloodletting. The other group received a Western treatment: indomethacin, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. Participants were studied for a period of three menstrual cycles.
