Simple and enjoyable physical activities such as bicycling, dancing, and tai chi can lead to significant improvements in physical and mental symptoms of Parkinson’s disease and sometimes even slow the progression of the disease.
Parkinson’s disease is the second-most prevalent neurodegenerative disorder after Alzheimer’s, but it’s growing quickly.
“In recent years, PD [Parkinson’s disease] has undergone the fastest growth in prevalence and disability among neurological disorders, and it has become one of the leading causes of disability worldwide,” notes a research article published in Frontiers in Public Health in 2021.[1]
More than 6 million people are affected worldwide—with some estimates putting it at more than 10 million.[2] Parkinson’s disease prevalence increased by 21.7 percent from 1990 to 2016, significantly reducing individuals’ quality of life while adding a burden to health systems—one that conventional medical systems weren’t prepared for.[3]…
