The European Commission has proposed a ban on products made with forced labor in the European Union (EU) market, with the prohibition covering all products consumed in the region, both locally produced and imported.
The proposed ban will make a “real difference” in tackling modern-day slavery, Valdis Dombrovskis, executive vice president and commissioner for trade, stated in a press release on Sept. 14 “Our aim is to eliminate all products made with forced labor from the EU market, irrespective of where they have been made. Our ban will apply to domestic products, exports, and imports alike. Competent authorities and customs will work hand-in-hand to make the system robust,” he said….
