The death of nearly 2,500 Americans, including the loss of 13 service members to a suicide bombing attack at Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul on Aug. 31, 2021, still rings fresh in the ears of many. With almost 3,000 deaths attributed to the 9/11 attacks over 20 years ago, the events surrounding Afghanistan may be seared into the memories of Americans forever.
