President Joe Biden on Aug. 24 announced his administration is giving $3 billion more to Ukraine as the war there continues.
“The United States of America is committed to supporting the people of Ukraine as they continue the fight to defend their sovereignty,” Biden, a Democrat, said in a statement.
He said the $3 billion would enable Ukraine to buy air defense systems, artillery systems, radars, and other military equipment.
The money is being drawn from aid packages Congress approved, including a $40 billion package that Biden signed in May.
Russia invaded Ukraine in February.
Biden made the announcement on Ukraine’s independence day. Ukraine became independent in 1991. It used to be part of the Soviet Union….
