Seventy-three people were shot in Chicago over the weekend, with 10 murders recorded, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) said Monday. Approximately 45 shootings took place between Aug. 6 at 6 p.m. and Aug. 8 at 11:59 p.m., police officials in the city said. The shootings left 63 injured and 10 dead in the third-largest city in the United States. Nine other shootings took place on Friday before 6 p.m. in the violence-riddled city, according to incident reports compiled by the CPD. In one incident, a 29-year-old female police officer identified as Ella French was gunned down during a traffic stop on Saturday. A second officer was left injured.
