Fifteen people are dead and 10 have been taken to hospital with various injuries, after a semi-trailer heading east struck a bus carrying approximately 25 seniors from Dauphin, Manitoba, and surrounding areas.
At a news conference at 5 p.m. local time, RCMP Assistant Commissioner Rob Hill said the mass casualty event took place at approximately 11:45 a.m. earlier that day near Carberry, about 170 km west of Winnipeg. The drivers of both vehicles are being treated in hospital and survived the crash.
From photos taken of the scene, it appeared the passenger bus started on fire after the collision. Various wheelchairs and crumpled walkers were at the scene earlier in the day, as well as tarpaulins and blankets covering victims of the crash….
