Since Xi’an authorities put the city of 13 million people in northwest China under lockdown on Dec. 23 due to the rapid spread of COVID-19, people have been struggling to get food and supplies. All residents in the city have been put through another round of COVID-19 testing, while 90 residential communities in the city have been closed off. The 13 million citizens are prohibited from going out. Some local residents told the Chinese language Epoch Times that they hadn’t even had time to prepare food before the total lockdown. Liu Feng, director of the Shaanxi Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention, said that in this round of the COVID-19 outbreak, Xi’an has seen stealthy transmission and community spread, and it’s been spreading outside the city to other parts of the province.
